THE MULTIPLICATION PRINCIPLE

(MINI-PROJECT BY BETH)

Beth's poster displays the twelve possible outcomes that can result if one flips a coin, and then rolls a single die. The outcomes from flipping a coin are in the set {H,T}, and the outcomes from rolling a single die are in the set {1,2,3,4,5,6} The multiplication principle states there would be 2x6 = 12 outcomes if the two events are combined. These outcomes are in the set

{(H,1),(H,2),(H,3),(H,4),(H,5),(H,6),(T,1),(T,2),(T,3),(T,4),(T,5),(T,6)}
